Growing
up in the country, animals were always a part of my life.
Bouviers, an Old English Sheepdog, and a Yorkshire Terrier were a few of the
personalities that added colour to our human family. For the last 6 years,
our Portuguese Water Dog, Baasco, has warmed our hearts (and our furniture)
and of course, he continues to do so. . . . Now we
have Katie (Satinka) and it seems as though a whole new world has opened up.
She is so much a part of my everyday life in a way that no other dog has
ever been. Her amazing temperament (and size) allows for adventures
that I wouldn't even consider with another dog. From movie theatres to
shopping, she instinctively knows when to just hang out quietly in my purse.
She's even gone to school with me on many occasions. During the summer
months she hangs out at a children's camp with my husband and I while we
teach woodworking and ceramics (respectively). She loves as classes
change, and greets each new group as they come to my door. When they
get down to work, she snuggles up in her house and waits for them to finish.
During free time, Katie and Baasco take a run to the lake. Baasco
swims with the geese and Katie chases squirrels up the trees. Last summer
Katie actually followed Baasco right into the water and went for a little
swim. She is a wonderful companion and is constantly making me laugh.
I could just sit and watch her, but then of course, I would never get
anything done!
